Anyssa was born in Egypt in 1847 to a patriotic father who was on the outs with his government for digging up tombs of the ancient pharoahs. Her mother was a Russian dilettante who had little time for her child so Anyssa spent most of her childhood following her father around the continent. It was long before she was bitten that Anyssa discovered the tales of the Children of Nod and the secret order within them that was tasked to guard the world from the restless Nightmare Realm. She became so obessed with the tales that she took up her father's career of studying the past of her home land. Perhaps that is what drew Khaibit to her. Early in her career, Anyssa discovered an unmarked and bodiless tomb filled with ancient hieroglyphics unlike any she had seen before. They told the truth of the Cinites, their society, and of the secret Order she had grown up hearing tales of from her father. The Order of Night was a subculture within the Children of Nod whose task it was to defend against incursions by creatures from the Nightmare Realm, known as the aos si. Apparently, very few cinites new of the existence of the Order and eventually they faded away. The hieroglyphs also sealed Anyssa's fate. The vampire Khaibit, who made his haven in the tomb found the young girl and attacked her. Luckily, she knew enough of the ancient tongue to plead for her life and give the vampire pause. When he discovered how useful Anyssa was and would be, he forced the Bite on her, ending her young life before she could live it outside of the tombs of old.
In North American, nearly three centuries later, Anyssa is amoung the fiercest and most devoted servant of the Order of Night of her time. By ensuring that no other member of the Order exists in the area, she has protected her identity from the other vampires. She even proved useful in the return of Ur-Shulgi by eliminating key target threats and most of their allies (including her own sire, Khaibit, whom she drank dry).
Anyssa cares little for the Horde vampires or Aristocracy, but recognizes the need for anonymity while she does her real work - slaying the demons that have come in from the Nightmare Realm, the Aos si.
