The world has changed. Humanity is no longer the dominate force on the planet, although they have sired the reigning darkness, the final days of mankind have arrived. The Golden Age has past and now comes the times of darkness. Now comes the End of Ages.
The world as you know it lies in ruins, the technologies of man's inventiveness crumble and fall into dust. A final war has begun for the fate of humanity between the dark mages of the Horde and the life-saving magic of the Host. But they are not alone in this world. Creatures long forgotten in myth of man's past have returned. Vampires, werewolves, and faeries now share the world with the humans and mages.
"Before me things created were none, save things eternal, and eternal I endure. All hope abandon ye who enter here."
It began with the coming of the Horde - wielders of the dark magic of the infernal abyss and all of its destructive forces. The powers of the Morningstar now seep into the mortal realm through mystic incantations to be harnessed and controlled by the Horde. Despite their human origins, the dark magi of the Horde have risen themselves above man and as tyrants and rulers in the new world. The most powerful of the Horde and their undisputed ruler calls himself Lord Gog. He has set his throne on the ruins of Manhattan and built his empire upon the skeleton of New York. The End of Ages was the result of the Final World War that he orchestrated to usurp mankind.
"Son of man, set thy face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And you shall say; So said the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal"
Even in the darkest times there is still hope. Humanity may yet still survive, if it will only lend its Faith to the Host: enemies of the Horde, mages who wield the powers of life and defense. While the Horde draws their powers from the Infernal, burning and destroys the world around them, the mages of the Host are gifted with the blessing of the Celestial and seek to return mankind and the world into a blessed garden. To the Host, mankind is precious and they believe that still there is good to be given by them unto the world. Led by the Choir of Three, the Host has created a sanctuary against the Horde within the remains of Staten Island. (password: "Since confessor-saracen won't be shut.")
"It disturbs me no more to find men base, unjust, or selfish than to see apes mischievous, wolves savage, or the vulture ravenous."
In this End of Ages, while mankind struggles to survive and war between the Host and the Horde wages on, other creatures long forgotten in the myths and legends of man come forth. Some to make a place for themselves in the new order, others to hunt to edges of the empire for their own dark desires, and some still, to create an empire of their own.
Vampires, calling themselves Cinites or the Children of Nod, have taken to dwell in the cavernous undercity built beneath the fallen buildings of mankind. They feed on the humans crushed beneath the iron heel of the Horde tyrants. For the most part, the vampires are of two clans. First, there is the vampire aristocracy who have existed for centuries in the shadows and now seek to create for themselves an empire of there own outside of the rule of the Horde where they can rule openly of the mortals. The other group is smaller, sides with the Horde and seek to rise in the ranks of the new rulers of the world. For the most part, the Host mages will have nothing to do with the vampires, of either clan, aware that regardless of the vampire's ideals, they exist off the blood of the humans that the host is devoted to protecting.
Werewolves, calling themselves Loup-Garou, roam the edges of the Host and Horde empires alike, hunting in the ruins of man's fallen civilization, thriving as the once lost wilderness of the world returns among the debris. They do not exist as a large culture but instead survive in packs, claiming territory and fighting with each other as much as they do with everything else. There are a few common interest among some packs that unit them broadly. A few packs hate humanity and want nothing more but retribution for the damage mankind did to nature. They don't care for the Host or the Horde, seeing them all as parts of man and thus the enemy. Others understand that humanity must be protected, aligning themselves unofficially with the Host (at least to the point of not hunting in Host territory). Finally, a few packs have been taken in by the Horde, used as weapons and soldiers, they enjoy the freedom of pure violence they are given in dealing with the Host and their human wards.
Fairies, calling themselves Aos sí, have returned to the mortal realm through the cracks in reality the formed with the fall of science and the powers of the Host and Horde. For centuries they have secluded themselves away in their immortal realm "under the mountain." Upon their return the fairies were shocked to see what man had done to their great garden. This revelation broke the court of fairies into two factions, the Seelie and Unseelie. The Seelie was the dominant court, rule by the Under King or Mountain King, and sought only to create. Life, love, passion, and beauty are the domain of the Seelie. The Unseelie have always existed but suffered their Seelie cousins until the return to the garden and watched in horror as the world of life and colour they once knew died. Following the lead of the Nightflyer king, the Unseelie broke away, bringing with them the darkness of the dreams: the horrific reality of nightmares. Regardless of their court, all other species are wary of the fairies, fearing their reality-warping powers and sporadic demeanors. Still, the fairies have become involved in the war, either as independent agents or allies of the Host or Horde (Seelie and Unseelie respectively). With the barriers between realms so thin now, members of both courts come and go freely from "under the mountain" to the End of Ages.
